Videos – Part 2

The second part of my favorite videos. Click here to check out Part 1.

Johnson Park Head Shaving

Description: A teacher at Johnson Park Elementary in Olivehurst offered to shave her head if the students of the school could raise $3,000 for Pennies for Patients, a fund-raising effort for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The kids met the goal, and the teacher kept her word, along with recruiting a few other staff members to join in.

Notes: This is another video that presented the challenge of getting good audio with hundreds of excited kids. Fortunately, they started chanting in unison, which always helps. But what I’m really proud of here is some the facial expressions I captured around the 0:23 mark. They really adds to the story.

Car in Ellis Lake

Description: Ellis Lake is right in the center of the city of Marysville. So when its reported that there’s a car in the bottom of it, the effort to pull the car out tends to get a lot of attention.

Notes: This is an example of filming a breaking news situation. I was shooting for allowing Capt. Wilson’s interview to provide a full narration, but also allowing the sound from the scene to tell the story as well.

Mid-Valley Football: Best of 2010

Description: This video is a 9-minute compilation of the highlights from all of the football games myself and our Internet Editor filmed during the fall of 2010. It utilizes some royalty-free music along with game audio to add to the action level.

Notes: Our visuals editor took a week’s vacation near the end of football season, giving me some extra time with his computer and FinalCut. Since our football videos tend to be much popular than our other sports videos, I thought creating a highlight reel would make for something our readers would like. This was spliced together from highlights of 15 different games shot during the season, which meant some very heavy cutting and tweaking in order to fit everything properly within the time permitted by the soundtrack.
